A FEAST FOR
THE SENSES

“The fledgling orchestra, under the baton of Music Director Victor Vener, has never sounded better, with a bright and energetic sound… The orchestra has also built for itself an enthusiastic and eager audience, one that overflowed the orchestra’s regular concert grounds at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Arcadia…”
—Pasadena Star-News

“The orchestra has one of the most gorgeous settings for evening concerts in the area…This is as close to the beauty and ambience of Tanglewood as Southern California gets.”
—Los Angeles Times

“It’s easy to see why these performances are popular…Vener has done a good job of programming pieces that are challenging for the performers and the audience, entertainment and enlightenment at once.”
—Pasadena Star-News

Cal Phil Festival on the Green is Southern California’s freshest summer music destination. With its diverse programming, exciting featured artists and world-class performance—all of which are tied together by Maestro Victor Vener’s masterful musical direction and engaging commentary from the podium—music lovers from throughout the region have consistently been engaged and enthralled by these fresh summer concerts.

Maestro Vener’s vision of using The Arboretum as the California Philharmonic’s summer home—combining great music with incredible natural beauty—was realized in 1997 with the help of a forward looking group of community leaders and the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department. The enthusiastic embrace of this vision manifested almost immediately, with attendance at the first-ever Festival on the Green wildly exceeding expectations. Now, the California Philharmonic is celebrating ten years of great music, while also looking forward to a lifetime of wonderful memories yet to come.

Whether seated comfortably around tables or on a blanket on The Arboretum’s tree-lined meadow, audience members are able to enjoy their favorite food and beverages before and during the concerts. Picnic suppers created by noted local caterers are available at the Festival Village; wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks are available from the Philharmonic Fountain. Concertgoers may also bring their own food and beverages. Pre-concert live entertainment is provided by the Pasadena Jazz Institute, allowing patrons to relax and enjoy their meals while enjoying the finest in live jazz from our Small Stage.
